Setting the stage at the launch of this year’s Summer Reading Club was a beautifully crafted puppet theatre complete with traditional velvet curtains and red trim.    This new feature was made especially for the Library by members of the Carnarvon Men’s Shed.

Men’s Shed members attended the Summer Reading Club launch to receive a certificate of appreciation from the library.  Young book club member Ebony Tripolitano presented the certificate to the Men’s Shed. The special guests also stayed on to enjoy the first ever puppet show performed by youngsters from the Kid’s Book Club.

“We are thankful to Paul and his team for building the theatre” said Library Coordinator Cheryl Weston.  “The theatre will encourage children to use their imaginations and play in an interactive way with each other which is great for enhancing early literacy” she added.  The theatre has been placed in the library kids zone for everyone to enjoy until the end of the Summer Reading Club in the new year.

For those not familiar with the Summer Reading Club, this program is presented through local public libraries to provide an enjoyable reading program during the Summer holidays.  The program runs between 1 December and 31 January each year and is delivered nationally by the State Library of Queensland.   If you would like your child to participate in the program feel free to visit the library for further information.  Visit the Summer Reading Club portal at to participate in the great online activities and competitions.
