Officially opened in October 2013 by the Premier of Western Australia, the Hon Colin Barnett, the new Regional Library and Art Gallery, located in Egan Street, was funded through several sources of Royalties for Regions grants.

This modern and contemporary space has improved access to information, knowledge, art, skill development, cultural awareness, technology, workshop space, historical information and a social hub and provides the Shires of Carnarvon, Exmouth, Upper Gascoyne and Shark Bay communities with both a library and art gallery that will meet and address current and future needs.

The range and design of functional areas and the variety of activities planned ensure that the following objectives will be met:

  • Making technology accessible;
  • Providing access to community, government and world information;
  • Providing a stimulating and supportive learning environment;
  • Providing a welcoming and inclusive environment and structure;
  • Making all art forms accessible.

Computer and Internet Access

Computer, Internet, wireless internet and printing services are available. Carnarvon Resident Members and visiting WA Public Library Members are able to access 30 minutes of free computer/internet or Wi-Fi access per day.  Fees apply for extra time.

Inter-Library Loans (ILLs)

Library items not available in Carnarvon can be ordered from other WA Public Libraries and the State Library of Western Australia through the inter-library loan system.  It is also possible to obtain External Loan items from interstate libraries for non-fiction items.  Some conditions may apply. To request items, please complete the Request Form.

Homebound Delivery Service

A home delivery service is available to Carnarvon residents who are unable to access library services due to an ongoing illness or disability. Staff use information provided by the reader to select library items. Items are delivered to their homes on a fortnightly basis.   Application Form for Homebound Delivery Service

Station Loans

Regular monthly delivery of books, DVDs and magazines are delivered to families living on remote stations within the Shire and Gascoyne Region.  Staff use information provided by the station occupants to select items, which are delivered courtesy of the regional courier service providers.  Contact the library for a Membership Application Form WA and Station Loan Profile
